2013-05-24: Linked by @rajapundalik - Raag Maru-BihagPt. Ravi ShankarThe original & much-decorated ambassador of ICM outside India plays for the first television channel of India - DD! The full-treatment, although somewhat shorter, recording gives you Aalap-Jod-MidTempo-FastTempo compositions. Compositions are set to Roopak (7-beat meter) & Teen-Taal (16-beat meter), respectively. The recording is a bit scratchy but one can observe deftness of his ‘chikari’ work & fiddling expertise in the initial shots through ‘aalap’ and the raag-presentation is certainly worth its weight in gold! Enjoy the original maestro…

Part of a live recording, the drut bandish set to Ektaal (fast-tempo 12-beat meter) is especially expressive. Accompaniment credits are unavailable but tabla sounds like Pt. Shashikant (Nana) Mulay. Enjoy Bhimsen-ji’s electrifying presentation…!!!

2013-05-21: Linked by @rajapundalik - Raag DarbariPt. JasrajRecorded in 1984, perhaps the best decade in the octogenarian performer’s life, this extremely contemplative Darbari is one of the best recorded by contemporary vocalists! Trademark usage of sargam unique to Mewati-Gharana, electric taan & wonderful bandishes embellish this all-time great recording. The khyaal is set to slow-tempo Ektaal (12-beat meter) & bandish is sung to mid-tempo Teen-taal (16-beat meter). Although accompaniment credits are unavailable, it is clearly Late Appasaheb Jalgaonkar on the harmonium. A recording for posterity indeed…!!!

On the harmonium is Late Ust. Mehmood Dhoulpuri. Listen to her legendary vocal range in the early moments of short aalap at the beginning - simply awesome…

2013-05-19: Linked by @rajapundalik - Raag YamanVidushi Malini RajurkarI keep returning to Yaman, an eternally pleasant raag-matrix, time-n-again as if gravitated. This time it is a lovely taraana, without any of the aggression generally associated with this form of compositions, sung by Malini-tai, a Gwalior Gharana veteran! Accompaniment credits unavailable but sounds like Dr. Arwind Thatte (Samvadini) & Subhash Kamat (Tabla). Enjoy…
